From the RPD: On February 12, 2017 at about 10:10 p.m., Rockford Police SCOPE officers were on patrol in the 1000 block of School Street when they observed a beige Lexus occupied by several subjects turn onto School Street from Underwood Street. Officers conducted a registration check and learned that the vehicle was reported stolen from the parking lot of Planet Fitness, 2420 South Alpine Road, earlier that evening. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at Napoleon Street and North Main Street. The driver turned south onto North Main Street which is a posted northbound one-way street. The driver then pulled over to the west curb. Several subjects fled from the vehicle while two remained inside.
The driver of the vehicle was apprehended after a brief foot chase. He was identified as a 16-year-old male and was found to be in possession of look-a-like narcotics. The other two subjects who remained in the car were both identified as 17-year-old males. Officers located a BB gun during a search of the vehicle.
The 16-year-old driver was charged with the following offenses: Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession with Intent to Deliver Look-a-Like Substance, Fleeing to Elude, Resisting, No Valid Driver’s License, Disobeyed Stop Sign.
He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. The two 17-year-old male suspects were charged with Criminal Trespass to Vehicle and were both released to their parents.
This is an open investigation. No further information is available at this time. The charges against these suspects are merely accusations. They are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Around 10:30 pm we heard on the unencrypted airwaves of the Winnebago County sheriff channel that they were going to be assisting the Rockford Police. Officers were following a stolen vehicle. They occupants fled on foot. Rockford Scanner fan said officers had their assault weapons drawn on the vehicle in the 900 block of N Main. County is tracking a suspect with the K-9 dog. No suspect information, due to the Rockford police being encrypted. Still developing
