On Thursday, February 16, at about 9:00 AM a Loves Park officer attempted to stop a vehicle allegedly being driven eastbound at 50 MPH in a 30 MPH speed zone on Riverside Blvd. The driver accelerated & drove over a center median near Riverside and Clifford Ave., flattening both front tires. Losing control of the vehicle, the driver nearly collided with a second police car, before continuing eastbound on Riverside Blvd.
The driver exited the moving car at Forest Hills & Riverside. As the car came to a rest, the driver ran southeast behind Walmart on Northridge Dr. The officer gave chase. As the officer caught up with the driver outside Alegro Academy, 6413 Forest Hills Rd., he shoved the driver to the ground. The driver immediately started to get back to his feet & the officer used a chemical irritant on him. The driver was taken into custody.
