The Rockford Police Department was pleased to welcome a standing room only crowd to the District 2 Station Dedication and Open House this afternoon.
This approximately $7.5 million historic structure redevelopment project was eligible for tax incentives, reducing costs by approximately $4 million, nearly 40% of the cost of redevelopment.
The station houses the District 2 Operations Bureau (Patrol, Community Services), the Central Reporting Unit which operates from 8-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, School Resource Officers, Crime Analysis and Intel Unit, Centralized Investigations Bureau (Financial & Property Crimes, Gangs, Sensitive Crimes, Violent Crimes, Afternoon Shift Detectives), and the Chaplains Headquarters. The facility also features a community room which can be reserved for public use.
A special thank you to everyone who made this project possible: Hagney Architects, FGM Architects, Schmeling Construction, Rockford Local Development Corp, Alpine Bank, Stillman Bank, Northwest Bank of Rockford, Blackhawk Bank, City Council, Mayor Morrissey, Jim Ryan, Fire and Police Commissioners, City of Rockford Public Works team, Project Manager Austin Crull, and, of course, you the community for your continued support.
