ARREST WARRANT ISSUED
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announces charges against a Rockford man for a deadly shooting at Cliffbreakers Resort and Conference Center in January 2017.
On January 1st, Rockford Police responded 700 W. Riverside Boulevard for a fight with reports of multiple shots fired. Officers found two victims, one of them, Joshua Jamerson (34-years-old)was deceased when police arrived. An autopsy later revealed Jamerson died as a result of a gunshot wound. Another man, was transported to the hospital from Cliffbreakers and survived. Two other victims had also been shot and drove themselves to the hospital, and were treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. Both men told police they’d been shot during a party at the Conference Center.
Sean D. Burks (31-years-old) faces 32 counts of First Degree Murder, three counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, three counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
A warrant has been issued for Mr. Burks. Anyone with information regarding this incident or Burks’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Rockford Police Department Investigations Bureau at 779-500-6551or Crime Stoppers 815-963-7867.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Homicide Investigation – 700 W Riverside Blvd. – Cliffbreakers Hotel
Rockford, ILL – On Sunday, January 1, 2017 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers of the Rockford Police Department responded to the Cliffbreakers Hotel for shots being fired. Upon arrival officers encountered a large group of people and subsequently determined four individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. One of the victims was found deceased at the scene. The other three individuals had already driven themselves to Rockford Memorial Hospital as officers were responding to the hotel. One of these three individuals is in critical condition.
Detectives are actively investigating the incident and no further information is available at this time.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims and there have been no arrests.
At approximately 3:30 AM on January 1, 2017, members of the Rockford Police Department responded to 700 W. Riverside Blvd (Cliffbreaker’s Hotel), regarding a large fight, and shots fired inside of the hotel. Upon arrival, officers located two male gunshot victims. One victim was struck in the lower portion of his body, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He is in serious condition. The second victim was deceased.
Two other male gunshot victims from the hotel transported themselves to a local hospital, where they were treated for non-life- threatening gunshot wounds to the upper portions of their bodies.
The identity of the deceased subject is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin.

Over 15 shots have been reported inside the hotel
MANY officers on scene. No suspect information.
Rockford police are encrypted, and have yet to release any information.
Around 3:30 am this morning several officers were dispatched for a fight with shots fired.
It happened at Cliff Breakers on W Riverside.
