On Friday November 11, 2016 shortly before 7:00 p.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to the area of North Rockton Avenue and Bruce Street in reference to a shooting incident. When they arrived officers located two victims: a 14 year old male, later identified as Jamario Crawford, who was deceased; and a 17 year old male, later identified as Lontrell Brantley, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Brantley was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident and the results were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, First Degree Murder charges were authorized and a warrant was issued for the 15 year old suspect, Coley Carwell.
