A video emerges on youtube that shows the bird strike happened just seconds after lifting off the ground. The video was taken by the youtube username of Celine Neumiller. You can also clearly see fire at the end of the video when the bird hit the engine.
Airport and emergency officials previously stated the bird strike happened approx. 20 miles south of the airport. They also reported there was no fire.
As you can clearly see in the video, the bird strike happened seconds after liftoff and there was flames.

UPDATE: The aircraft had struck some geese while on takeoff from the Rockford Airport. The aircraft departed westbound on runway 7/25. The aircraft lost their number 1 engine.

Some passengers reported seeing fire but airport officials said there was no fire.
Several passengers were shook up, but no injuries were reported.
There was 177 passengers and 6 crew members on board the aircraft.
Around 5:06 pm today several fire departments were dispatched to the Rockford Airport. Scanner traffic is saying there is an aircraft that is inbound and their engine is on fire. Several fire departments are en route.
This is an airplane with over 100 people on board.
It appears that it is the Allegiant Air 1671 (N234NV) that departed Rockford Airport at 5:02 pm, that was headed for FT Myers. They are headed back to the Rockford Airport.
Update: Fire is out, they are landing with one engine. Over 130 people on board the airplane. The plane landed, they have struck the MABAS. The possible cause is believed to be a bird strike. That means the aircraft hit a bird while in flight. It has not been confirmed, and is under investigation.
