ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE – 650 Third Street Beloit
November 6, 2016 – at 12:53am a Beloit Police Officer was in the Municipal Parking Lot, 650 3rd St. on an unrelated matter and heard shots being fired. The officer observed a vehicle fleeing the parking lot. Other responding Beloit Police Officers observed this vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop however the vehicle refused to stop. Officers were pursuing the vehicle when it crashed in the 1700 block of Prairie Ave. in Beloit.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 23 year old female from Janesville, was found to have single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The female was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle, Lavesha Burnett, 19 years old from Janesville, has been arrested for Knowingly Fleeing and is being held in custody.
Another passenger in the vehicle, Dajon McClinton, 23 year old from Missouri, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was treated / released from an area hospital. McClinton was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Recklessly Endangering Safety. McClinton is being held in custody.
The suspect in the shooting has been identified and is currently being sought for Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. This ongoing investigation has determined that the parties involved were known to each other and that this incident was not a random act. Beloit Police Detectives continue to interview witnesses as well as reviewing evidence collected.
The identities of the gunshot victim and suspect are not being released at this time.
