On Thursday November 24, 2016, around 12:20pm, Rockford Police Officers responded to the area of 3200 block of Auburn St in reference to multiple calls for shots being fired in the area. While the officers were responding, a 45 year old male arrived at Rockford Memorial Hospital with a minor gunshot wound to his neck. He was treated and later released. Information was learned the this victim was in a vehicle leaving the parking lot as a group of black males began arguing behind him. As he and the driver were turning onto Auburn St, they heard multiple shots being fired behind them. The rear window then shattered on their vehicle and the victim realized he had been shot in the neck. The driver of the vehicle then drove the victim to the hospital. Officers located over 10 spent shell cases in the parking lot and on N Avon St. A second occupied vehicle was found to have been struck by the gunfire. At this time, it does not appear that either vehicle and occupants were the intended targets. At this time there are no further details on this investigation.
