On Sunday, October 30, 2016 between the hours of 4:44 p.m. and 7:06 p.m., the Rockford Police Department responded to three valid intrusion alarms at Rockford Public Schools.
A first alarm was received at 4:44 p.m. at Gregory School, 4820 Carol Court. While officers were responding, a citizen called reporting that three black males, approximately 13-15 years of age, were at the rear of the school. Upon arrival officers established a perimeter and located an opened window on the north side of the school. Officers searched the inside of the school and did not locate any suspects.
The second alarm was received at 5:15 p.m. at Carlson School, 4015 Pepper Drive. Upon arrival officers located a broken window on the south side of the building which led into the nurse’s office. A perimeter was established and a K-9 searched the interior of the school for suspects. No one was located.
The third alarm was received at 7:06 p.m. at Eisenhower Middle School, 3525 Spring Creek Road. Upon arrival, officers observed three suspects running southbound from the west side of the school. Officers lost sight of the suspects and established a large perimeter. It was also determined that the school had several unsecure exterior doors. Officers requested a K-9 to search the perimeter and the search turned up no suspects. Officers recovered three bicycles and three backpacks which were located on the road leading to the main entrance of the school.
At 10:47 p.m. officers responded to a residence near Carlson School in reference to a strong armed robbery. Parents of two male children were reporting that their children had their bicycles and backpacks stolen from them. Upon further investigation it was determined that the two children were involved in the burglary at Eisenhower.
The children, ages 14 and 15, were arrested for burglary. A third suspect, who has been identified, remains at large and the Rockford Police Detective Bureau is conducting follow up on this active investigation.
