On Monday October 24, 2016, Rockford Officers were dispatched to JP Fashions at 342 College Avenue just after midnight in response to suspicious persons outside the closed store. As officers were responding, an alarm was received for the business.
Upon arrival, officers found that the business had been forcibly entered and multiple suspects were fleeing on foot. Officers flooded the area and engaged in multiple foot pursuits. Five juvenile male suspects were apprehended. Evidence connecting the juveniles to the burglary was recovered. The five male suspects, all of Rockford, range in age from 13-years-old to 17-years-old. Three of the suspects were lodged in Winnebago County Juvenile Detention and two were released to parents.
Charges against the suspects include:
Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Criminal Damage to Property, and Resisting Arrest.
The charges against the suspects are mere accusations and all are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
No further information is available at this time.
Around 1:30 am this morning several RS fans said there were many officers at the strip mall near College and Seminary in reference to an alarm. Police requested the RFD for a ladder to the scene. Sounds like they located some burglary suspects (not confirmed) RFD is encrypted, so the information is limited to RS fan eyewitness reports and RFD traffic.
We can confirm several officers on scene and the RFD assisting with a ladder, for either to search the roof or get the alleged suspects down from the roof area.
