On Thursday, October 13, 2016, the driver of a vehicle pulled up to a gas pump at Grand Stand, 7997 Forest Hills Rd. & the driver purchased gas at 8:07 AM.
After the gas was purchased, an employee of the business realized that the driver, Paul A. Northrup (29) of Rockford, was sleeping behind the steering wheel. She later reported that she tried, but was unable to wake Northrup, so she returned to work.
Awhile later, when the employee saw the vehicle still at the pump, she returned to the car & tried to wake Northrup a second time. Still unable to wake him, she called police about 48-minutes after he paid for the gas at the pump.
Northrup was charged with armed violence, unlawful use of a handgun, driving while under the influence of drugs, possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of cannabis, driving while license suspended, operation of uninsured vehicle & possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges are merely allegations & the defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a Court of Law.
