UPDATE: A 14 year old student has been arrested for disorderly conduct, in reference to make the clown threats to Harlem
During the week of October 3, 2016 there were several unsubstantiated rumors of clowns that were threatening to attack several schools in the Harlem School District. This was part of a regional and national trend.
On October 5th and 6th there were two separate Facebook postings which threatened the Harlem 9th Grade Campus. Several hundred students either went home early or did not come to school the following day.
An investigation completed by Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies and school administrators identified a 14 year old student who was responsible for one of these postings.
This juvenile has been arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.
THE CHARGES AGAINST THE JUVENILE ARE MERELY ACCUSATIONS AND HE IS PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY IN A COURT OF LAW.
From the Harlem School District:
Earlier today you received notification regarding a Facebook threat against the Freshman Campus. We worked with law enforcement and determined that the threat was not credible.
This evening, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 another threatening Facebook post was shared with us stating that a clown is going to come to Harlem Ninth Grade Campus tomorrow (Thursday). Administration, along with law enforcement are aware and continue to diligently work through this matter. As a precaution, we will have heightened police presence again tomorrow at the Ninth Grade Campus. We ask that if you have any information regarding these Facebook posts to please contact local law enforcement. Safety of our students and staff remain our highest priority in the Harlem School District. If you have questions, please contact the school. Thank you.
