SAMUEL E VALADEZ, 24 years old of Harvard, Illinois was charged with Aggravated Battery, great bodily harm, (class 3 felony). Valadez remains in the Boone County Jail with no bond. A class 3 felony is punishable by two (2) to five (5) years in the Department of Corrections.

3 – 17 year old males of Belvidere, Harvard, and Poplar Grove, Illinois were also arrested and lodged into the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center.

On Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at approximately 5:15 pm Belvidere Patrol Officers, and Boone County Deputies responded to the 300 block of W. Lincoln Ave. for a fight in progress. Officers arrived on scene with Lifeline Ambulance, and Belvidere Fire Department personnel and began performing first aid on a 19 year old male who had been the victim of an Aggravated Battery. Lifeline Ambulance transported the victim to St. Anthony Hospital where his condition was stabilized but critical.

Belvidere Police Officers and Detectives began a preliminary investigation and identified several witnesses who provided suspect information. Boone County Deputies located several subjects in the area of W. Jackson St. and Garden Drive. After conducting suspect and witness interviews, the Boone County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized Aggravated Battery charges against Valadez. Two of the four individuals who were arrested had a gang affiliation but it is unknown at this time if the reason for this senseless crime was motivated by those gang ties.

The Belvidere Police have reason to believe there were additional witnesses with the victim just prior to these events that have not come forward.
