During the past week the Rockford Police Department has investigated several Residential Burglary incidents that occurred in the 7300 block of Colosseum Drive. During one of those incidents a vehicle was stolen from the residence.
On Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at approximately 5:40 p.m. officers from the Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (SCOPE) team located the vehicle at a gas station in the 3200 block of Auburn Street. At that time four juveniles were located in the vehicle. The subjects attempted to flee on foot, but were taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident and the results were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office who authorized the following charges:
ARRESTED: 17-year-old male Rockford, IL
CHARGES: Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
ARRESTED: 16-year-old male Rockford, IL
CHARGES: Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
The names of the suspects are not being released due to their ages. Two female teenagers were released without charge. Based on the information available at this time it is not believed that these suspects were involved in the Residential Burglary incidents.

All charges are merely allegations and parties are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Scope Officers were on patrol when they saw a stolen 2011 Ford Escape stopped at the gas pumps at the Clark Gas Station (3215 Auburn). Scope officers approached the Ford and while doing so the driver of the ford tried to flee and stuck a citizens vehicle. the driver fled on foot, leaving the Ford in drive causing it to roll forward striking the un-marked squad car. Four subjects had been in the Stolen auto and fled on foot and all four subjects were located and detained. Detectives were called in to interview the suspects and this is an on going investigation with charges pending.
