On September 27, 2016, 22-year-old Lanair Jones-Sullivan was shot and killed in the 1400 block of Birch Court. Rockford Police Department detectives conducted a follow-up investigation into the murder and the results were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized and a warrant was obtained for the suspect, Demario Thompson.

CHARGE: First Degree Murder
BOND: $1,500,000

On October 21, 2016, Rockford Police detectives determined that Thompson was inside an apartment in the 2900 block of Conklin Drive. Numerous officers and investigators, including the Rockford Police Department SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiators, responded to the scene. Thompson subsequently surrendered without further incident.

Thompson was later lodged in the Winnebago County Jail where he is being held in lieu of bond. A photo of Thompson is attached.

On Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at about 7:45 p.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Birch Court in reference to a shooting incident. When they arrived officers located a 22 year old male victim who had been shot in the head. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

On September 27th., 2016 at 7:45 PM., the Rockford Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Meadow Ct. for a shooting. Upon arrival officers located a male gunshot victim who was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. No suspect was present at the scene but he is described as a black male wearing a white t-shirt, fitted black pants, and a hat. A possible suspect vehicle is a maroon Chevrolet Impala or Malibu, silver stripe on the bottom trim, sunroof, and tinted back windows. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Buckbee Street.
