On Monday, September 5, 2016, Rockford Police Department patrol officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue in reference to a standby. A citizen had requested that an officer standby while he removed some belongings from the residence. While officers were on scene, one of the residents, Willie Key, arrived home in a vehicle. Key appeared to be concealing a weapon on his person as he approached the residence. When officers confronted Key he attempted to discard a handgun, later determined to be a .38 caliber revolver. Officers took Key into custody and recovered the weapon.

While Key was being processed at the Winnebago County Jail it was discovered that he was in possession of a substance that was later determined to contain heroin. Key was later lodged in the jail on the following charges:

ARRESTED: Willie Key 64-years-old Rockford, IL
CHARGES: Armed Violence
Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons
Possession of Heroin
No Firearms Owner’s Identification
Resisting Arrest
Driving While Revoked
No Insurance

All charges are merely allegations and parties are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
