On Monday, September 5, 2016 at approximately 7:30 p.m. Rockford Police Department patrol officers responded to an apartment in the 1400 block of Birch Court in reference to a Home Invasion. When they arrived officers learned that a group of three males and two females had entered the apartment to confront the occupants about an ongoing personal issue. One of the male suspects was armed with a handgun, which he used to threaten the occupants of the apartment. After the incident the suspects fled the scene in a tan Chevrolet Suburban. No one was injured during the incident.

During the on-scene investigation, officers from the Rockford Police Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (SCOPE) team located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of College Avenue and Seminary Street. Officers followed the vehicle and eventually conducted a traffic stop at Broadway and 7th Street. Several individuals were taken into custody from the suspect vehicle.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident and the results were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, the following individuals were arrested:

ARRESTED: Rodney Toney 21-years-old Rockford, IL
CHARGES: Home Invasion
Aggravated Assault with a Handgun
No Firearm Owner’s Identification
Unlawful Use of Weapons

ARRESTED: Samule Hill 40-years-old Rockford, IL
CHARGES: Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons
No Firearm Owner’s Identification

Both suspects were later lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.

The remaining occupants from the suspect vehicle were released without charge.

No further information is available for release at this time. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

All charges are merely allegations and parties are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
