UPDATE: Both escaped inmates from the Columbia Correctional Facility in Portage, WI are now in custody. They arrived at Miss Carly’s and were recognized from their posted pictures. More details to follow.

They were called to Miss Calry’s at 1125 5th ave, for a suspicious person just after 8:30 am.
Where police were able to arrest them without incident.

The one person in custody is saying that it is not him.
And the local police are trying to confirm their identities.

From Miss Carly’s:

This morning two men showed up at our door shivering, frozen, wearing prison issue sweats and thermal shirts. They had emergency blankets stuffed under their clothing. They looked just like the kind of people we want to help….but they weren’t.

I recognized them right away.

They had escaped from prison in Wisconsin.

See, my mom was homeless and she was kidnapped, raped and murdered years ago. So, these guys faces stuck in my memory after seeing their photos and reading about their charges.

Rockford Illinois Police Department was here within minutes and handled the situation with professionalism and cool heads. I trembled as I offered the two men coffee to warm them up and stall their departure. I was so relieved when our officers showed up.

They are off the streets now.

I have a huge heart for the unloveable and the lost, but I will always fight to keep our city safe

Sources are reporting 2 escaped inmates are in Winnebago County.

The inmates, 37-year-old James Newman and 46-year-old Thomas Deering, escaped from the Columbia Correctional Facility on Thursday. They were in custody for homicide, sexual assault, battery, kidnapping.

Their cell phone was pinged near 1500 block of Old Meadow ct in Rockton.

So they are confirmed in Winnebago County.

They turned off the cell phone.  So their last known location is in Winnebago County.

Local police are encrypted and have not released any information.

These are 2 VERY DANGEROUS prisoners!

Investigation indicated the pair escaped by climbing over a fence. The suspects then reportedly went to a hotel, where they were picked up by a taxi and taken to Poynette. The Sheriff’s Office believes they had left the Portage area before the Sheriff’s Office even knew it happened.

As you can see below numerous local agencies were on scene investigating this. And yet not a word from the police to the public on this VERY DANGEROUS situation!!!
